Getting involved in the community where you live, work and play is fundamental to me. I have always volunteered my personal time to causes and projects that I believe in.

Wheeling Skatepark Fund Raising

DEDICATION
The Wheeling Rotary Club Recognized at Wheeling Skate Park Dedication Ceremony

Wheeling City Officials and Wheeling Skate Park Committee Members hosted a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the Wheeling Skate DSC01464Park on Sunday, October 21st. The generous support of individuals, businesses, and organizations like the Wheeling Rotary Club helped get the park funded and built.

Wheeling Rotary Club member, Bryan Murray signed on with the Wheeling Skate Park Committee in 2004. This grass-roots group had big dreams and little money for the daunting $330,000 project. Murray approached then Rotary Club President, John Egan McAteer about getting the Rotary Club involved. A committee was formed that included Bryan Murray, Dick Koehler, John Morrsion and John Egan McAteer.

The committee met regularly and worked behind the scenes to get more of the business community in support of the skate park. skatersWelcomedThe Wheeling Rotary Club held a celebrity waiter event, collected donations and used existing club funds to raise money for the project. They were able to double the donation with a matching District Simplified Grant. The funds were donated to the project in 2006 as the Wheeling Rotary Club’s Centenial Project. The Rotary Club’s involvement, city funding and a myriad of other donations helped the Wheeling Skate Park Committee get a subsequent matching federal grant to make the park possible.

The staff and students of the Augusta Levy Learning Center would like to wish everyone a Happy and Joyous Holiday Season.

Recently the students were visited by Frosty the Snowman during one of their craft projects. A big thanks to Bob Gaudio for the audio!
